Macao Science Center is proud to present an all-new dome show “Aurora: Lights of Wonder” at the Planetarium starting from Tuesday, August 1.
“Aurora: Lights of Wonder” is the world’s first 4K X 4K real time virtual reality full dome show about the northern lights or aurora borealis. After spending several years in preparation, Korean astrophotographer O-Cheol KWON captured the dazzling footages during an aurora substorm in 2015.
The faster the aurora moves, the brighter it becomes. Unlike usual time-lapse images, high resolution video at 30 frames per second was taken by a number of ultra-high sensitivity cameras and low light sensors instead to capture the auroras as they are, thus allowing the audience to experience the sophisticated and dynamic features of a real aurora storm. Also, animations and computer graphics were used throughout the show to explain the legends and science behind the northern lights.
Not only can we see the auroras from the International Space Station for the first time, we will also learn about the best places to see auroras, the secret behind their vibrant colors, shapes and different kinds of auroral substorms, as well as the latest scientific breakthroughs in auroral studies and the auroras on other planets.
“Aurora: Lights of Wonder” is the winner of both the “Audience Award” in the 4th International Planetarium Movie Festival 2016 in Korea and the “Janus Astro Award” for Best Astronomy-oriented Fulldome Show in the 11th Fulldome Festival 2017 in Germany.
