To celebrate International Museum Day, Macao Science Center (MSC) is once again cooperating with other 20 local museums in the Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2018, on Sunday, May 13.
This year, the Carnival, themed “Mobile Museum: Taipa-Houses vs Taipa Stories”, will be held at the Taipa Houses Square. MSC has specially designed a series of science and technology-based activities featuring Taipa streetscape and cultural heritage, inviting participants to experience the old charm of Taipa Village through new technology.
During the Macao International Museum Day Carnival 2018, MSC will launch a number of interactive programs to entertain the public, including:
"VR – Tour of the Old Taipa in 360° virtual reality”: with VR glasses, participants are immersed into a 360° virtual reality and will time travel through the streets and alleys, revisiting the story of the old Taipa Village through images.
“AR – The Past vs the Present”: While appreciating old photos of Cotai on their mobile devices, matching images of the past and the present will show up, in yet another time traveling into the old Taipa Village charms and scenery transformations.
Seaplane Model Making Competition: In order to reenact Miss Macao – the legendary Catalina seaplane of 1948, participants are required to design and make their own seaplane model and then put its floating capacity into contest.
In addition, on May 18 (Friday, 7:00 - 8:30pm) International Museum Day, Mr. Oscar Leong, Education and Exhibits Controller of MSC, will give a lecture at the School of Continuing Studies, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on the theme of "Hyperlinked Museums: New Approaches, New Audiences. The talk will explore ways to expand audienceship through publicity and education, and will discuss the features and applications of several "new approaches."
Meanwhile, MSC will follow International Museum Day's tradition, offering free admission to the exhibition center on May 18. For more information, please visit the Macao Science Center website at www.msc.org.mo, or the portal of Macao's museums: www.museums.gov.mo, or call 2888 0822 for inquiries.
