In recent years, Macao has been struck by typhoons Hato and Mangkhut, and the aluminum façade system of Macao Science Centre (MSC) has been structurally damaged. After the typhoons, MSC immediately invited relevant professionals to carry out comprehensive damage survey and assessment, and also set up scaffolds and safety nets in the affected area to ensure the safety of all visitors and pedestrians who enter and exit MSC. In the meanwhile preparations were made for the subsequent repair works of the aluminum façade.
In order to further improve the wind resistance capacity of MSC’s façade system, strengthen the resistance of MSC main buildings to bad weather, and ensure the normal service to the public during the repair period, MSC façade repair project was carried out in two phases. The first phase involved the dismantling and waterproofing works of aluminum panels of façades at higher locations, which was completed in November last year.
MSC is actively carrying out the second phase of the repair works that includes comprehensive optimization of MSC aluminum façade system’s design as well as step-by-step replacement of all existing aluminum panels of the façades.
Although the above works may still be affected by weather or other factors, the contractor is confident that they can be accomplished as scheduled and that all works are expected to be completed by November 2019.
MSC would like to thank all sectors of the society for their attention to the repairing project of Macao Science Centre façades and is looking forward to the public’s continued support and understanding.
