Macao Science Center Celebrates the Lunar New Year with a Series of Activities

To welcome the Year of the Tiger together with the public, the Center will be closed on Lunar New Year’s Eve, 31 January and will open from 1 to 6 February. A number of amazing programs have been arranged to celebrate the Lunar New Year with residents and tourists.

The “Sanrio Characters Green Technology Carnival” is currently taking place in the Center. Several super-popular characters including Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars, and Pompompurin put on their brand new outfits as cute “Green Technology Ambassadors” to introduce the green building elements inside and outside the Center and green technology-related knowledge. A number of 3D installations and must-see locations are set up for visitors to take photos. There is also a treasure hunt game in the Exhibition Center for children to collect cute stamps while learning to be green technology experts. Visitors can enjoy a 10% discount on the purchase of two or more crossover souvenirs from the Gift Shop of the Center. The “Sanrio Characters Green Technology Carnival” will end on 6 February. Those who have not yet attended the event will have to seize the last chance.

From 29 January to 6 February, the Center will set up a “Coloring Activity Area” in the lobby exhibition gallery where a variety of Sanrio characters coloring paper and crayons will be available for children to color their favorite characters. Lively clowns and magicians will twist balloons and perform magic tricks in the Center from 1 to 5 February (14:00 to 17:30) to add to the joyful atmosphere. The Nordi, Lesti, Centi, Oesti, and Suli mascots (“Elfozinhos Huaxia” in Portuguese), which are very popular among children, will come to the Center and give out exquisite Spring Festival couplets to the public for free from 15:00 to 16:30 on 29 and 30 January, sending everyone sincere New Year wishes.

In addition to the above activities, visitors may also go to the “Data Science - Internet of Things” in Gallery 2 to feel the impact of the Internet of Things on life and urban development and see the “Ancient Chinese Inventions Experience Exhibition” in Gallery 6 to learn about the scientific inventions and achievements of ancient China. The 3D dome show Magic Globe 3D recently launched by the Planetarium is also very suitable for parents and children to watch together. It tells the story of a little girl, Mia, who uses a mysterious astronomical machine to change the seasons of the Earth, thereby introducing the science of the changing seasons.

In line with the anti-pandemic measures of the Macao SAR Government, all visitors are required to wear a mask, take a temperature check, present a valid green Macao Health Code and disinfect their hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizers before entering and purchasing tickets. The Center appreciates visitors’ understanding and cooperation with the above measures and hopes that visitors will wear masks throughout the activities and be aware of personal hygiene at all times. If necessary, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also available at the entrance, galleries, and Gift Shop of the Center for visitors to disinfect their hands at any time.
