Macao Science Center Will Hold the Event “Starry Night: Wonder of the Sky” at the Planetarium on March 19
The “Wonder of the Sky” event of the “Starry Night” series activities for astronomical popularization will be held on March 19 (Saturday) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Planetarium of Macao Science Center. Mr. Jeff Dai Jianfeng, an award-winning starlight photographer and member of the international organizations “The World At Night (TWAN)” and “Astronomers Without Borders (AWB)”, will come to the Planetarium and share with the public his experiences and photography skills of photographing starry skies and rare astronomical phenomena around the world over the years. This is definitely not to be missed by anyone who is interested in astrophotography.
Mr. Dai has extensive experience in astrophotography. For more than a decade, he has visited many cities at home and abroad, including Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu and Guizhou, to take pictures of the dazzling starry skies and different peculiar astronomical phenomena such as the Perseids and Geminids, solar eclipses, the Milky Way, Comet NEOWISE and airglow ripples, hoping to capture the beauty of the starry skies and share his unforgettable experiences and photography skills of chasing the starry skies with other astronomy enthusiasts. Admission to the “Starry Night: Wonder of the Sky” event is free and no registration is required. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office of Macao Science Center on the day of the event.
To stimulate children's interest in learning astronomy, Macao Science Center will hold the “SKY KIDS X Hello Mars!” event on April 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Planetarium. “Hong Hong” and “Xiao Yuan Yuan”, the two protagonists of the dome theater “Tianwen Probe and Mars”, will take the children to explore the mysteries of the stars and explain knowledge about China's Mars exploration mission “Tianwen-1”. Meanwhile, the children can learn the basic structure and operating principle of a Mars rover while making simple hand-held Mars rovers by themselves. The “SKY KIDS X Hello Mars!” event is open for registration from March 14 to 20. The registration fee is MOP120. Children aged 6 to 12 and their parents are welcome to take part in the event (registration link: https://forms.gle/vpuKMD2AtRJoaYjF9). All children participating in the above activities must be accompanied by a parent.
In order to increase public interest in astronomy and spread astronomical knowledge, Macao Science Center has hosted the “Starry Night” series activities for astronomical popularization since July 2015. Every month, astronomical educators and astrophotographers in Macao and neighboring regions will be invited regularly to hold lectures or astronomical observation activities on different topics at the Planetarium.
Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays. It is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year's Eve.
