Macao Science Center Is Listed as a National Science Popularization and Education Base for 2021-2025

Recently, the First List of Accredited National Science Popularization and Education Bases for 2021-2025 issued by the China Association for Science and Technology has been announced. Macao Science Center is listed as one of the “National Science Popularization and Education Bases”, becoming the first science and technology venue in Macao, Hong Kong and Taiwan to receive this honor.

“National Science Popularization and Education Bases” are demonstration places established by organizations in such fields as science and technology, education, culture, health, agriculture, security, natural resources and tourism, which are open to society and the public and have the functions of science popularization and education. According to the nature of expertise, they are divided into six categories--science and technology venues, education, scientific research and major projects, agriculture, rural areas and farmers (referring to places that improve the scientific literacy of farmers by relying on advanced agricultural technologies and achievements, agricultural education and scientific research facilities, and agricultural demonstration test bases), enterprises, natural resources, and others. The China Association for Science and Technology is responsible for the accreditation management and macro-guidance of national science popularization and education bases. Its work includes coordinating the accreditation management, research and inspection of national science popularization and education bases that will be carried out every five years, and providing guidance for the development of each base.

In October 2021, the China Association for Science and Technology issued the Notice on the Establishment of National Science Popularization and Education Bases for 2021-2025. After procedures such as recommendation, evaluation and announcement, a total of 800 places in China have been included in the list of accredited “National Science Popularization and Education Bases” by the China Association for Science and Technology. All places that apply for inclusion in the list must meet a series of infrastructure requirements and science popularization service indicators for their respective categories. The demonstration period is from 2021 to 2025.

The fact that Macao Science Center is listed as one of the “National Science Popularization and Education Bases for 2021-2025” reflects the state's recognition of Macao's science popularization and education work and the process of Macao's integration into the overall development of the country. Macao Science Center will continue to actively carry out science popularization and education projects, and strive to improve its ability of organizing science popularization activities, in order to promote science popularization and education among local adolescents and facilitate the spread of novel technologies and science communication.
