Macao Science Center Will Hold a Lecture this Saturday to Share Knowledge on Ancient Chinese Astronomical Observations with the Public
When it comes to stargazing, people may think of the twelve constellations in ancient Greek mythology. In fact, ancient China had long developed a system of dividing the celestial sphere into officials, which played an important role in the history of astronomy. The "Chinese Starry Night" will be held on August 13 (Saturday) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Planetarium of Macao Science Center (MSC). Mr. Lei Chi Fei, the president of the Macao Astronomical Society, will be the lecturer. Mr. Lei will introduce the stargazing techniques in ancient China, and explain the "Three Enclosures, Four Symbols and Twenty-Eight Mansions" as well as the differences and connections between the starry sky division in China and that in the Western world. Members of the public are welcome to come and learn about the wisdom of the ancients. Admission is free and no registration is required. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office of MSC on the day of the event.
Additionally, in order to develop children's interest in astronomical science and Mars exploration, MSC will hold two "SKY KIDS X Hello Mars" event sessions on August 13 and August 21 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Planetarium for children and their parents to explore together the mysteries of the stars, enjoy the dome theater "Tianwen Probe and Mars", and make miniature Mars rover models by themselves. The two "SKY KIDS X Hello Mars" event sessions have already been fully booked and registration is now closed. MSC would like to thank everyone for their support for the "SKY KIDS X Hello Mars" event and welcomes the public to actively participate in its other science popularization activities.
In line with the anti-pandemic measures of the Macao SAR Government, all visitors are required to wear a mask, take a temperature check, scan the site QR code of MSC, and disinfect their hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer before entering. MSC appreciates visitors' understanding of and cooperation with the above measures and hopes that visitors will wear masks throughout the activities and be aware of personal hygiene at all times. If necessary, visitors can disinfect their hands with the alcohol-based hand sanitizers at the entrance, the galleries, and the Gift Shop of MSC.
MSC is open Monday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will be open every day during the summer vacation in August. To learn more about the activities and information of MSC, please visit the website of MSC at www.msc.org.mo and check the latest announcements on social media.
