Macao Science Center Celebrates National Day with Series of Events in October
Free Admission to the Exhibition Center on National Day
To celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Macao Science Center will organize various activities in October to publicize the stories and important contributions of scientists who have worked for the advancement of science and technology, the improvement of people's livelihood and the development of China in historical periods since the founding of the People's Republic of China to the public, and encourage young people in Macao to learn from the patriotic, innovative, pragmatic, dedicated, collaborative and educational spirit of scientists.
In October, Macao Science Center will participate in the Science and Technology Section of the 12th Beijing International Film Festival and the “Science Dreams in Light and Shadow” - 2022 national tour of scientist spirit films in national science popularization venues of the 12th Special Effects Film Festival of China Science and Technology Museum, which is organized by the Professional Committee of Special Effects Cinema of the Science Popularization Venue of the China Society for Natural Sciences. Six quality films on the spirit of scientists, namely “Madam Ye”, “Poetry and Truth”, “The Soul of Hybrid Millet”, “Hsue-Shen Tsien”, “Yuan Longping” and “I Am A Doctor”, and seven animated microfilms in the series “Science Idols” produced by the China Science and Technology Museum to promote the spirit of scientists, will be on in rotation at the Planetarium to publicize the hard working and significant contributions of many pillars of the country to the audience. Admission to these events is free and group bookings are also welcome. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office of Macao Science Center on the day of the event. As always, admission to the Exhibition Center will be free on October 1 (National Day), and the first 30 Macao resident visitors to each dome show at the Planetarium will also enjoy free admission. The popular Macao tourism mascot Mak Mak will present at the Center from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to take photos with visitors. Visitors who follow the Center on any of its social media platforms from October 1 to 7 will receive a souvenir by showing it to the staff at the ticketing office. The gifts are limited. First come, first served.
From October 1 to 5, at 3 p.m., two popular science dramas, Battle with Tooth Worms and The World of 0 and 1, will be on in Gallery 5 of the Exhibition Center. Parents and children can learn about oral health and the prevention of tooth decay, as well as the relationship between binary, big data, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and smart living.
In addition, the Planetarium will organize two “Starry Night” astronomical science popularization activities on October 8 and 22, respectively. The “Astronomical Concert” on October 8 will bring an immersive audio-visual feast to the public, while the “Introduction to Shaw Prize of Astronomy: Measuring a Billion Stars” on October 22 will introduce the two winners of this year's Shaw Prize in Astronomy and their scientific achievements. Both “Starry Night” activities will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Admission is free and no registration is required. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office of the Center on the day of the event.
