Promotion of "Starry Night" Series of Astronomical Popularization for December
The "Space Resources and the Dream of the Earth-Moon Economic Zone" Lecture Will Be Held this Saturday
As December begins, Macao Science Center will launch three exciting astronomical popularization activities of the "Starry Night" series.
On December 3, Prof. Wing-Huen Ip, a renowned Chinese astronomer, a member of the Academia Sinica, and a member of the International Academy of Astronautics, will give a lecture on space resources and the dream of the "Earth-Moon economic zone" through an online dome connection. The current distribution of resources on the moon as well as China's lunar exploration program and manned space program will be introduced to the public.
On December 8, an astronomical phenomenon called "Mars opposition" will appear in the sky over Macao. On that day, Mars will line up with the Earth and the Sun, when it will be closest to the Earth and at its brightest. The month before/after the Mars opposition is an ideal time to observe Mars. Macao Science Center will hold "Starry Night: Observation of Mars Opposition" on December 10. In addition to two astronomical telescopes for the public to observe Mars, staff will also be arranged on site to guide participants on how to operate the astronomical telescopes and introduce related astronomical knowledge. On December 17, Prof. Wing-Huen Ip will again give a lecture entitled "Starry Night: Extraterrestrials of Macau" through an online dome connection to discuss exoplanets and biospheres with the public.
