Promotion of "Starry Night" Astronomical Popularization for January at the Planetarium of Macao Science Center
January is not only a time to celebrate the arrival of the New Year with family and friends, but also a good chance to enjoy the beautiful starry sky in winter. Macao Science Center has prepared astronomical popularization activities of "Starry Night" for January to embrace an exciting and fulfilling year with the public.
The first "Starry Night" astronomical popularization in 2023 will be held on January 7 (Saturday) from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Planetarium of Macao Science Center. The President of the Macao Astronomical Society, Mr. Sirius Lei, will host a lecture on Introduction to Nobel Prize in Physics 2022: Quantum Entanglement to introduce the 2022 Nobel Laureates in Physics to the public, including French scientist Alain Aspect, American scientist John Clauser and Austrian scientist Anton Zeilinger, and detail their contributions to entangled photon experiments, verification of the violation of Bell's inequality and pioneering quantum information science. Admission to this event is free and no registration is required. Free tickets will be distributed by the ticketing office of Macao Science Center on the day of the event.
From 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on January 28, Macao Science Center will host "Starry Night: Starry Night at Hac Sa Long Chao Kok" at one of Macao's top stargazing destinations, Stone of Pre-historic Man, Hac Sa Long Chao Kok, Coloane, to lead the public to experience the bright and dazzling winter sky with professional equipment. In addition to setting up an astronomical telescope for participants to try stargazing, the Center will arrange for staff to explain the basics of stargazing, star identification skills and the characteristics of the winter sky, including the classic constellation of the northern hemisphere in winter (Orion, Canis Major, Canis Minor, Taurus, Gemini, Auriga, etc.), famous bright stars (Sirius, Procyon, Betelgeuse, Rigel, Pollux, Castor, Capella, Aldebaran, as well as Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka), celestial bodies and constellation, and guide participants to observe the Winter Triangle and the Winter Diamond with astronomical telescopes. No registration for this event is required. Interested participants may go to the event venue on their own. The above events may be canceled or changed due to factors such as weather.
Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year's Eve.
