Macao Science Center Is Awarded as an Outstanding Organizer of the 2022 National Science Day by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and Two Science Education and Popularization Events Organized by MSC Are Selected as Outstanding Events for National Science Day
On December 22, 2022, the Office of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) issued the Notice on the Commendation of Relevant Organizers and Events for the 2022 National Science Day. 949 organizations were awarded as outstanding event organizers and 1,025 events were awarded as outstanding events for the 2022 National Science Day. Macao Science Center was selected as one of the outstanding organizers of the 2022 National Science Day, while the "MSC-School Collaboration Program" and the "Science Popularization and Study Clock of Ringing Out the Summer and Ringing in the Science Popularization Week" organized by the Center were also awarded as outstanding events for the 2022 National Science Day.
The "MSC-School Collaboration Program" implemented by the Center was awarded as an outstanding event for the 2022 National Science Day. The Center is committed to achieving a multi-level connection with basic education and strives to become an important classroom for science popularization and education in schools. This includes the provision of multi-level MSC-school collaboration programs such as the "Science Popularization and Education Program for Students" and the "Customized Collaboration Model" to schools. Throughout 2022, the MSC-School Collaboration Program saw an increase of nearly 50% in the number of participating students, 75% in the number of projects launched, and 16% in the number of participating schools compared to the previous year. The MSC-School Collaboration Program supports schools to lead their students to conduct various scientific explorations in the Center. One of the features of the Program is the in-depth linkage with the school curriculum by leveraging facilities of the Center to design science exploration activities for participating students at different grades based on the curriculum framework and the basic academic requirements at all levels of formal education, so as to help them foster a scientific mindset of "thinking in the way of a scientist". The Program aims to enrich the science and technology learning journey of students, extend the learning scenario from "school classroom" to "MSC" and transform the learning model from "one-way knowledge transfer by teachers" to "student-centered science exploration".
In addition, the "Science Popularization and Study Clock of Ringing Out the Summer and Ringing in the Science Popularization Week" organized in August 2022 was also awarded as an outstanding event for the 2022 National Science Day. The event offered knowledgeable and interesting science popularization and education activities such as science demonstrations, science dramas, science mini-experiment workshops, outdoor astronomical observation and virtual reality interactive experiences, and primary and secondary school students in Macao were invited to serve as science reporters to share with the public what they have seen, experienced and felt during their participation in the event through photos, text descriptions or short videos. This event enabled teenagers to learn science knowledge related to their daily lives during the interaction with the science commentators or exhibits, and develop scientific thinking and hands-on problem-solving skills. A total of 2,153 people participated in the above activities.
In the future, Macao Science Center will continue to actively carry out science popularization and education projects, and strive to improve its ability of organizing science popularization activities, in order to promote science popularization and education among local adolescents and facilitate the spread of novel technologies and science communication.
Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year's Eve.
