Macao Science Center Organizes Staff to Visit the Exhibition of Spirit of the Times in Macao - Chinese Scientists in the Past Centuries

More than 40 members of the Board of Directors and staff of Macao Science Center visited the Exhibition of Spirit of the Times in Macao - Chinese Scientists in the Past Centuries yesterday (January 5). Through more than 300 precious pictures, models and exhibits on display, colleagues from the Center learned about the great contributions of more than 100 Chinese scientific and technical workers committed to science to serve the country. At the same time, they gained a deeper understanding of the research achievements of Macao's tertiary institutions in the fields of aerospace science and technology, microelectronics, traditional Chinese medicine and smart city through the "Macao Science and Technology Development and Achievements Zone" at the exhibition.

After being awarded the "National Science Popularization and Education Base" and "National Scientist Spirit Education Base" by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) last year, Macao Science Center immediately set up the "Macao Science and Technology Development and Achievements Zone" in the Exhibition Center. In October of the same year, the Center participated in the Science and Technology Section of the 12th Beijing International Film Festival and the "Science Dreams in Light and Shadow" - 2022 national tour of scientist spirit films in national science popularization venues of the 12th Special Effects Film Festival of China Science and Technology Museum, which is organized by the China Society for Natural Sciences, and played six quality films on the spirit of scientists and seven animated microfilms in the series "Science Idols" produced by the China Science and Technology Museum to promote the spirit of scientists in rotation at the Planetarium to publicize the touching stories and significant contributions of many pillars of the country to the audience, and encourage the public to learn from the patriotic, innovative, pragmatic, dedicated, collaborative and educational spirit of scientists. The whole project was watched by nearly 13,300 people.

In addition, the Center continuously promoted the spirit of scientists and the scientific achievements of many modern Chinese scientists through short videos, podcasts, picture books and social media, and incorporated the scientist spirit into its science popularization activities, center-school cooperation and thematic exhibitions, hoping young people to acquire scientific knowledge and practical skills while developing a love of science, a pursuit for innovation, a respect for knowledge and a dedication to science.

In the future, Macao Science Center will fully leverage its function and value as a "National Science Popularization and Education Base" and "National Scientist Spirit Education Base" to actively support the education and policies for young people of the Macao SAR Government, and continuously move forward to tell the story of Chinese innovation, enhance the scientific literacy of the public and cultivate scientific and technological innovation talent.
