“The Earth’s Last Frontier Exhibition – Mysteries of the Deep Sea” shall be exhibited at the
Center’s Lobby Exhibition Gallery from the 8th to the 31st of May. During the opening of the

available on the deep ocean floor, the public will be able to enjoy a live Mini-ROV workshop
which simulates the exploration of the deep sea with a mini remotely operated vehicle (ROV),
brought directly from Portugal, inside a temporary water pool set up at the Lobby Exhibition
Gallery. The officiating guests for the opening ceremony are Mr. Sylvester Cheong,
Vice-curator of the Macao Science Center; Prof. Peter Stilwell, Rector of the University of Saint
Joseph; Prof. Fernando Barriga, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of Science of the University
of Lisbon and Former Director of the Portuguese National Museum of Natural History; Prof.
Aldino de Campos, Head of the Task Group for the Portuguese Continental Shelf Extension
(EMEPC); and Prof. Liu Feng, Secretary-General of China’s Ocean Mineral Resources Research

The set of 4 public lectures are part of the main attraction of this event, since they will bring
local, Portuguese and Chinese professionals to talk about themes such as, why the deep sea is
considered to be Earth’s Last Frontier, the economic significance of hydrothermal systems as
an important source of metallic resources and what are the current most important
Portuguese and Chinese deep sea exploration research projects and new discoveries.
