“Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village” Officially Recruits Trainees
A briefing session on the “Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village”, organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and the Macao Science Center, was held on April 13 at the Planetarium of the Center, with a total of 47 representatives from 33 schools attending, and received an overwhelming response. School representatives actively asked questions to gain a better understanding of the program and many schools expressed interest in recommending their students to participate. Registration will be open from April 14 to 30.
The “Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village” is launched under the Presentation of the Policy Address for the Area of Social and Cultural Affairs for the Fiscal Year 2023, which aims to give full play to the role of Macao Science Center, higher education institutions and a number of state key laboratories to provide special training for students with expertise in fields of science and technology, thereby discovering early and cultivating timely science and technology talent. In addition, the program will be committed to facilitating cooperation between schools and enterprises and enhancing support for youth and students’ career planning.
The program is targeted at Grade 9 (Grade 10 candidates). 100 students with expertise in the field of science and technology will be nominated by their schools, and experts from higher education institutions, major science and technology institutions and enterprises will be invited to serve as mentors. The program will be an opportunity for students to have in-depth learning of computer and technology networking, engineering, biology and chemistry, etc., and create conditions conducive to the future integration of students into national development.
In addition to the facilities of research institutes, science and technology enterprises, higher education institutions and various state key laboratories, Macao Science Center will set up a shared laboratory to create a shared space for schools and young students. The laboratory includes FabLab, NetLab, Maker Space, a popular science reading room and other facilities.
The program will continue to collaborate with various scientific research venues to foster students’ scientist spirit so that they will become scientific innovation talent that cares about their family and country. In addition, it will assist young people and students in planning their professional scientific and technological careers, and support their further education and diversified development.
