Macao Science Center Responds to the National Science and Technology Workers Day with Various Science Popularization Activities in May to Promote the Spirit of Scientists
In support of the National Science and Technology Workers Day, Macao Science Center will organize various activities in May, including the "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit", a science popularization lecture entitled "Learning from Yuan Longping to be a Good Seed" and online podcast programs. Besides, Macao Science Center will launch a long-term exhibition gallery on National Science and Technology Workers Day (May 30) to pay tribute to scientists and encourage young people to learn scientist spirit centered on patriotism, innovation, pragmatism, dedication, cooperation and education.
The "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" will be held from April 30 to July 2 at Gallery 2 of Macao Science Center. Through precious photos, images, manuscripts, specimens and interactive multimedia exhibits, the exhibition will showcase the remarkable contributions made by scientists since the founding of the People's Republic of China in safeguarding national security, building a modern defense system, ensuring energy and food supplies, and promoting the physical and mental health of people. In addition, the exhibition will introduce the stories of struggle and classic quotations of scientists who have made great contributions to the development of science and technology in China, major national infrastructures such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Hualong One, and the achievements in aerospace technology. In addition, Macao Science Center will set up a Macao sci-tech Innovation Zone to display the achievements of Macao scientists, allowing the public to gain insight into the development of science and technology in China while understanding the spirit of and patriotism of scientists. Furthermore, Macao Science Center will launch the second season of the Spirit of Chinese Scientists on online podcasts and social media to help the public know about the scientists who have made significant contributions to the science and technology progress of China and their pioneering deeds.
The lecture, "Learning from Yuan Longping to be a Good Seed", will be held on May 27 at 11 a.m. at the Convention Center, featuring Luo Yunliang, former Deputy Director, Party Secretary and Director of the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center and the National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center (CNHRRDC). The lecture will provide the public with an insight into the truthfulness and the courage of Yuan Longping to challenge authority, as well as his contribution to the development of agricultural science and food supply in the world.
The Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery (Gallery 10) will be open to the public on National Science and Technology Workers Day. With multimedia and interactive exhibits, the gallery will display the contributions of scientists from different periods of history since the founding of the People's Republic of China to promote national independence, national prosperity and the well-being of the people.
From May, the Planetarium will launch a new 3D dome show, Earth's Climate, which introduces the problems brought about by climate change to the Earth's environment and human life, and suggests actions to be taken to protect the blue planet. This dome show is suitable for parents and children to watch together to cultivate the awareness of children to protect the environment from an early age.
