Macao Science Center Organizes "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" to Pay Tribute to China's Pioneers of Sci-tech Innovation

In order to tell the story of Chinese scientists, enhance the scientific literacy of the public and continue to bring into full play the value of the Macao Science Center as a scientist spiritual education base, the Macao Science Center will organize the "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" from now until July 2 at Gallery 2 of the Exhibition Center. The exhibition will publicize the stories and important contributions of scientists who have worked for the advancement of science and technology, the improvement of people's livelihood and the development of China in the historical periods of revolution, construction, reform and the new era since the founding of the People's Republic of China to the public, and encouraging the public, especially young people, to learn from the scientist spirit centered on patriotism, innovation, seeking truth, dedication, effective teamwork and education.

Today (May 4) marks the 104th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, the spirit of which is patriotic, progressive, democratic and scientific. Therefore, Macao Science Center held an opening ceremony for the "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" this morning. At the opening ceremony, the Board Member and Executive Committee Member, Curator Sio Hon Pan made a speech: The opening of the "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" is an important milestone for Macao Science Center after it was listed as a National Scientist Spiritual Education Base last year. Macao Science Center has been organizing many education activities related to scientist spirit, including exhibit display and competitions. The exhibition covers the six elements of scientist spirit: patriotism, dedication, education, effective teamwork, innovation and seeking truth. In future, Macao Science Center will launch more activities to promote the spirit of scientists and hopes that the public will continue to support science popularization.

President Xi Jinping once pointed out that scientific achievements cannot be achieved without spiritual support. The spirit of scientists is a precious spiritual treasure accumulated by science and technology workers in the practice of science over a long time. Through precious photos, images, manuscripts, specimens and interactive multimedia exhibits, the exhibition will showcase the remarkable contributions made by scientists since the founding of the People's Republic of China in safeguarding national security, building a modern defense system, ensuring energy and food supplies, and promoting the physical and mental health of people. In addition, the exhibition will introduce the stories of struggle and classic quotations of scientists who have made great contributions to the development of science and technology in China, including Tsien Hsue-shen, the "Father of Chinese Rocketry and Spaceflight", Yuan Longping, the "Father of Hybrid Rice", and Tu Youyou, the first Chinese scientist to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine, as well as China's aerospace technology and major infrastructure projects, such as the "Two Bombs and One Satellite", the China Aerospace Team, the "FAST", the 500-meter spherical radio telescope, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the "Huanglong One". A Macao sci-tech Innovation Zone will be set up to showcase the hard work of Macao scientists, providing the public with a comprehensive understanding of the advanced technologies and pioneers in China and Macao and the scientist spirit.
