President Wan Gang of the China Association for Science and Technology Visits Macao Science Center

A delegation led by President Wan Gang of the China Association for Science and Technology visited Macao Science Center on May 9. They visited the Planetarium, the Electrics and Electromagnetics Gallery, the Data Science Gallery and the Space Science Gallery in the Exhibition Center, as well as the ongoing "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" successively, fully affirming the work of the Center in promoting science popularization and education among adolescents and advocating the spirit of science.

Vong Iat Hang, an adviser to the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, and Mok Ian It, president of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited, welcomed the delegation. Mok Ian It thanked the China Association for Science and Technology for its support. Macao Science Center was awarded the two national honors of "National Science Popularization and Education Base" and "National Scientist Spirit Education Base" last year. Around these two national education bases, the Center has enhanced and deepened its mission in the past year. In addition, the Center carried out work in line with the Outline of the National Action Plan for Scientific Literacy. During the visit, recent events for promoting science popularization and education and scientist spirit were introduced. The Center continuously leveraged its strengths to tell the stories of science popularization and the stories of scientists and to incorporate the scientist spirit into various educational activities in order to improve the popular science literacy of all people.

Afterward, the delegation led by President Wan Gang visited the "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" where they listened carefully to the introduction of several famous Chinese scientists' major contributions and large-scale scientific and technological infrastructure projects by a science commentator, such as the fathers of the "Two Bombs and One Satellite", the China Aerospace Team, the "FAST" (the 500-meter spherical radio telescope), the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the "Hualong One". During the visit, Curator Sio Hon Pan, a director and a member of the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, personally demonstrated the operating methods of a number of interactive exhibits to President Wan Gang and other guests, and introduced the Center's science popularization and education, spread of novel technologies and science communication, the preparatory processes and renewal plans of new galleries, the functions and equipment of the Mechanical Workshop, and the blueprint for the future development of the Center.

The members of the delegation of the China Association for Science and Technology included Wang Jinzhan, a member of the leading Party members group and executive secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Sun Honghang, confidential secretary of the Department of General Administration of the China Association for Science and Technology, and Wang Baohui, head of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan section of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Exchange Office of the China Association for Science and Technology. In addition to Vong Iat Hang, an adviser to the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mok Ian Ian, president of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited, and Curator Sio Hon Pan, a director and a member of the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, Wong Ka Ki, vice-president of the Board of Directors and president of the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, U Hon Sang, a director and a member of the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, and Sylvester Cheong, deputy curator of Macao Science Center, also accompanied the delegation in the visit.
