Macao Science Center Actively Promotes Science Popularization and Education for Young People in Macao

President Xi Jinping recently wrote a letter to the teachers and students of the Macau University of Science and Technology who participated in the research and development of the "Macao Science No. 1" satellite, expressing his concern for Macao's universities and science and technology workers and offering important inspiration for the development of science and technology education in Macao. Upholding the important spirit of President Xi Jinping's reply, Macao Science Center will strive to enhance and deepen its mission of science popularization and education for young people. Under the leadership and strong support of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the Center will continue to cultivate young people's scientific literacy, innovative thinking and practical skills, improve science and technology education, and learn the spirit of scientists through MSC-school collaboration and diversified science popularization activities.

In response to the National Science and Technology Workers Day on May 30, MSC and DSEDJ have jointly organized over 50 sessions of "Short Talk on Learning About Chinese Scientist Spirit" from May 1 to June 30, introducing to primary and secondary school students the stories of scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology in China, and expecting to cultivate a sense of patriotism and enthusiasm for science in the next generation. In addition to the "Stars Dream Chasing - Thematic Exhibition on Scientist Spirit" in progress in the Exhibition Center, Macao Science Center will open a new long-term gallery on May 29 with the theme of the spirit of scientists. Through precious photos, images, manuscripts, specimens and interactive multimedia exhibits, the gallery will showcase the remarkable contributions of scientists since the founding of the People's Republic of China in safeguarding national security, building a modern defense system and ensuring energy and food supplies. The long-term gallery also features a special zone for Macao, introducing the scientific research directions and achievements of the four state key laboratories in Macao, as well as the development process of the recently launched "Macao Science No. 1" satellite, so as to enhance the public's understanding of the cultivation of Macao's scientific research talent and the transformation of scientific and technological innovation achievements. In the future, the Center will also add science dramas with the theme of scientist spirit. Given the overwhelming response to the scientist spirit film, Science Dreams in Light and Shadow, held at the Planetarium, the Center will launch a new round of screenings from June 20, hoping to promote to the public the scientist spirit with "patriotism, innovation, pragmatism, dedication, cooperation and education" as the core in various forms.

Since the Macao Science Center was listed as a "National Science Popularization and Education Base" and "National Scientist Spirit Education Base" last year, it has cooperated with DSEDJ in various projects to deepen science and technology education, such as the "Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village" and the "Science Popularization and Education Program for Students", cultivating a great pool of scientific and technological talent for Macao SAR. In particular, through the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with the Aerospace Science and Technology Working Committee of the China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation (CAPC), the Center has installed BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) equipment in the shared laboratory for the upcoming "Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of Youth Science and Technology Village" and launched the first nationally authorized and certified "Science Popularization Experimental Curriculum on BeiDou Navigation Satellite System".

Supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), co-organized by the Macao Science Center and the Faculty of Education of the University of Macau, and sponsored by SJM Resorts, Limited, the "2023 STEAM X Picture Books X Storytelling" for July to December will be open for registration from June 1, which is suitable for children from upper kindergarten to P3 and their parents to experience the fun of parent-child science popularization and education activities. The public can register for the event through the Macao One Account.

Macao Science Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday regardless of public holidays, and is closed on Thursdays and Lunar New Year's Eve.
