To Continuously Promote Scientist Spirit and Its Rich Connotation to the Next Generation


Macao Science Center held an opening ceremony for the long-term gallery (Gallery 10) on the theme of the spirit of Chinese scientists at the Exhibition Center, expecting to continue to bring into full play the value of the Center as a "National Scientist Spirit Education Base" by displaying the struggles of Chinese scientists in different fields to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation over the past century, guide young people to develop the aspirations of serving the country with science and technology, pursuing innovation and scaling the heights, and encourage the next generation to learn and inherit the scientist spirit with "patriotism, innovation, pragmatism, dedication, cooperation and education" as the core.


The Publicity Department of the China Association for Science and Technology sent a letter of congratulations to the Center on the establishment of the first long-term gallery in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on the theme of Chinese scientist spirit. At the same time, Curator Sio Hon Pan, Board Member and Executive Committee Member, made a speech: It is very important to promote and inherit the spirit of Chinese scientists, and the Center will continue its efforts to spread the spirit of scientists and its rich connotation to the next generation. To support the launch of the new gallery, Macao Science Center presented a unique drama guided tour entitled Tu Youyou Meets the Scientists to lead the opening ceremony guests to visit the gallery. From now on, the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery is open to schools and groups by appointment. With the aforesaid lively drama guided tour, the Center will lead the public to learn about the significant scientific achievements of scientists and have a different visit experience while understanding the spirit of Chinese scientists.


With the support of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery will present the contributions of scientists from different periods of history since the founding of the People's Republic of China to promote national independence, national prosperity and the well-being of the people through interactive multimedia exhibitions of rare photos, images, stamps, manuscripts, wax statues of scientists, drama tours and instant photos with scientists. The long-term gallery also features a special zone for Macao that introduces the scientific research directions and achievements of the state key laboratories in Macao, helping the public learn about the advanced technologies and pioneers in China and Macao and appreciate the spirit of scientists involved, and enhancing their understanding of the cultivation of scientific research talent and the transformation of scientific and technological innovations in Macao. Five wax statues of scientists, including Hsue-Shen Tsien, the father of China space, Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice, Nan Rendong, the father of China's Celestial Eye, Hua Luogeng, the father of China's modern mathematics, and Zhao Zhongyao, the pioneer of China's nuclear physics, are also displayed in the gallery for visitors to take photos. In addition, animations are played next to the wax statues to introduce their pioneering work.


Guests at the opening ceremony of the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery include: Mok Ian Ian, President of the Board of Directors of Macao Science Center Limited, Wong Ka Ki, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Kuan Ho Weng, President of the Supervisory Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, Cheang Kun Wai and Kuan Chan, Victoria Alexa, Vice-presidents of Shareholders of Macao Science Center Limited, Fr. Joseph Chow Pak Fai, President of the Union of Catholic Schools of Macau, Chan Chi Kuan, Chairman of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau, and U Hon Sang, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of Macao Science Center Limited.


Given the overwhelming response to the scientist spirit film, Science Dreams in Light and Shadow, held at the Planetarium, the Center will launch a new round of screenings of six quality films on the spirit of scientists, namely Madam Ye, Poetry and Truth, The Soul of Hybrid Millet, Hsue-Shen Tsien, Yuan Longping and I Am A Doctor on Saturdays from now to October 29. All fees are waived. Gallery 5 of the Exhibition Center will present the popular science drama of Spirit of Chinese Scientists: Meeting Chinese Scientists in the Metaverse - Huang Danian to tell the audience the story of Huang Danian, a strategic scientist and internationally renowned aerospace geophysicist who was once described by President Xi Jinping as "upholding the collective interests and serving the country with utmost sincerity", who gave up his favorable job offer abroad and devoted himself to China. Schools and groups are welcome to watch the drama by appointment.
