MSC Unveils a Sunny Summer
A New Look of the Lobby in July; Joyful Science Popularization in Summer Days
Macao Science Center ("MSC" or the "Center") has recently completed the upgrade and renovation of the lobby and a new look will be rolled out on July 7. To spend the summer days with visitors of all ages, MSC will hold a series of activities with the theme of "MSC Unveils a Sunny Summer", including the new special exhibition "Vaccine: Guardian of Human Health", the "Drone Course" and "Scientific Darts Experience Class" summer STEAM activities, as well as the "Starry Night" brand activities based on themes such as an outdoor observation of the starry sky and a history of Chinese and foreign space suits. In addition to the new look of the public space in the lobby, other supporting services such as the electronic ticketing system, the Gift Shop and the café will be put into use one after another to bring citizens and visitors a more comfortable and convenient visiting experience.
MSC will launch the special exhibition "Vaccine: Guardian of Human Health" from July 21 to October 8. The exhibition is strongly supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Health Bureau. Through multimedia interactive forms, it comprehensively explains the scientific principles, R&D and production processes, efficacy, applications and future development of vaccines, among other knowledge, so that the audience can learn in depth about the important role of vaccines in protecting human health and cultivate a healthy life philosophy that advocates the boosting of immunity. In addition, the exhibition features a special zone for Macao, introducing information such as the history of vaccine applications, modern vaccine manufacturing technologies, the development of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, and the vaccination schedules for newborns and schoolchildren in Macao.
From July to August, MSC will hold two summer STEAM activities, "Drone Course" and "Scientific Darts Experience Class", to help children and teenagers make good use of their summer vacation and develop an interest in science. Macao Science Center is currently the only institution in Hong Kong and Macao that has been authorized by the brand to grant accreditation certificates for the "Drone Course". Apart from a drone set, each student enrolled on the "Drone Course" will be granted an accreditation certificate if the attendance rate reaches 75% and the course assessment is passed. In the "Scientific Darts Experience Class", the proper darts stances, the skills to improve the hit rate and the scoring method of darts competitions will be explained to the students from a scientific point of view. The above activities have limited places and are suitable for children and teenagers aged 9 to 14. If you are interested, register through the "Macao One Account" application or call 8795 7384 or 8795 7389 for inquiries and registration.
Furthermore, three "Starry Night" series activities for astronomical popularization will be held at the Planetarium: The theme of the activity on July 1 is "Starry Laid-Back Camp △ × ☆". MSC will set up astronomical telescopes, small tents and camping cars at Macao Science Center Seaside to create a casual salon atmosphere for the participants. Mr. Vincent Cheng, a distinguished Hong Kong-based astrophotographer known as "The Immovable", will be the lecturer. While leading the participants to stargaze at the Seaside, he will talk about the techniques and experience of stargazing in outdoor camping. In the "Observation of 'Supermoon' and Planets" held on July 3, the public can use the astronomical telescopes to appreciate the supermoon and the planets in the solar system that are visible to the naked eye. MSC will arrange for staff to explain the popular science knowledge of moon and planetary observation on-site. "A History of Space Suits" will be held at the Planetarium on July 22. Lydia Lung, founder of Hong Kong AstroLink, will feast the eyes of the audience with a fashion show of space suits and introduce the history of scientific and technological development of space suits, the characteristics of space suits inside and outside the cabin, the space suits worn by the world's first astronaut in space in 1961 and the first human to walk in space in 1965, the suits worn during moon landing and China's Feitian space suits. She will also explain to the audience the functions of the space suits and their components, the evolution of equipment, and the important role of space suits in maintaining the safety and health of astronauts.
