The Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" Holds an Orientation Event

Since the launch of the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" hosted by the Education and Youth Development Bureau and Macao Science Center in mid-April this year, a total of 36 schools have recommended Grade 9 students (Grade 10 candidates) with expertise in the field of science and technology to sign up and 100 trainees have been admitted. Recently, Macao Science Center held an orientation event for the trainees of the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" with a view to helping them learn about the philosophy, objectives, curriculum content and activity planning of the program so as to speed up their integration into the big family of the "Youth Science and Technology Village".

Wong Ka Ki, deputy director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, welcomed the trainees and introduced the philosophy of the program, encouraging them to actively participate in various research and study tours as well as visit experience activities by seizing the opportunity in order to explore their personal interests and career development directions. He hoped that the program would assist the trainees with early career planning so that in the future the trainees can develop their interests into careers and serve the Greater Bay Area and Macao.

According to Sio Hon Pan, a director and a member of the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited as well as curator of the Center, a variety of courses will be provided to explore the potential of the trainees in the field of science and technology and to help the trainees learn about their own strengths and carry out career planning. Meanwhile, Curator Sio encouraged the trainees to actively participate in the cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary activities provided by the program to learn about the development trends of science and technology, enhance the breadth of their cognition of science and technology, the depth of their use of logical thinking to think about problems and the proficiency of their mastery of science and technology to solve problems, and learn and inherit scientist spirit. He hoped that in the future the trainees would become scientific and technological talent that will support Macao's sustainable development.

Subsequently, Controller Oscar Leong of the Education and Exhibits Department introduced to the trainees the characteristic curriculum content and precautions of the program in detail, asked the trainees to get to know each other and had them separated into different classes.

The Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" will organize research and study tours for its trainees to the science and technology industries in Macao and the Chinese mainland in July. Various training sessions will be officially launched in September. Experts from higher education institutions, major science and technology institutions and enterprises in Macao will be invited to serve as mentors.
