Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" Organizes the First Local Research and Study Tour
to Learn about the Water and Power Infrastructure of Macao and Experience Skydiving
Organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and the Macao Science Center (MSC), the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" has recently launched the first local research and study tour, arranging for 64 trainees to visit public service infrastructures in Macao, including the Coloane Power Station, the Seac Pai Van Water Treatment Plant and the first indoor skydiving center in Macao. Through the tour, trainees can learn about the daily operation and management of Macao's water and electricity supply facilities, and experience skydiving to know more scientific knowledge such as dynamics and air resistance related to flying.
The trainees of the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" went to GoAirborne Indoor Skydiving in Macao to appreciate its large engines and powerful turbofan equipment, and then followed the staff to the basement to learn about the rectification of high-speed vortex winds to balanced winds as well as the scientific knowledge of dynamics and air resistance related to flying, and experience the fun of indoor skydiving under the guidance of professional instructors.
After that, the trainees visited the Coloane Power Station to listen to an introduction to the operation overview of the station and the setup of the smart home system by a representative from the Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM). In addition to visiting the exhibition and generator sets, trainees also took the opportunity to interact with the speakers and learn more about the effective measures to provide stable electricity to the residents of Macao.
Finally, the trainees visited the Seac Pai Van Water Treatment Plant under the Macao Water Supply Company Limited, where they learned about the history and operation of the plant, the transmission system and the process of water purification, and also tasted the "treated water" which had just been filtered and disinfected and was ready to be marketed. The trainees considered that the "treated water" was very clean, safe and thirst-quenching.
Students who participated in the research and study tour believe that the tour has helped them know more about the operation and management of water and electricity supply facilities and deepened their understanding of the development of public service infrastructure in Macao. At the same time, visiting the indoor skydiving center and experiencing skydiving provide them with theoretical knowledge of the application of dynamics and air resistance, boosting their confidence and enhancing their teamwork spirit.
Representatives of the Macao Science Center attending the local research and study tour of the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" also include: U Hon Sang, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of Macao Science Center Limited, and Oscar Leong, Controller of Macao Science Center Education and Exhibits Department. From the end of this month to the beginning of next month, the Macao Science Center will arrange research and study tours for trainees of the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" to science and technology institutions in the Chinese mainland to broaden their horizons and cultivate their interest in scientific research and spirit of innovation.
