Macao Science Center Launches Research and Study Tours

Outstanding Students from Higher Education Institutions in Jiangsu Province Visit the Center

Recently, under the organization of the City University of Macau, Macao Science Center received a research and study group of 48 outstanding students from higher education institutions in Jiangsu Province. The tour included a visit to a special exhibition and long-term galleries and participation in the "Planetarium's Secret" activity to learn about the high-tech equipment in the Planetarium. The immersive, interactive experience deepened the group's understanding of the work of Macao Science Center in popular science education and science communication.

The group stayed at Macao Science Center for approximately three hours, where they successively visited the special exhibition Vaccines - Guardian of Human Health and several galleries including the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery and the Data Science Gallery. The students were particularly interested in the metaverse interactive exhibits in the Data Science Gallery (Gallery 13). In the "Planetarium's Secret", an interactive guided tour of astronomical science popularization in the Planetarium, the students not only visited the control room and back office of the Planetarium which are normally inaccessible but also learned about the high-resolution digital dome theater system and the operation demonstrations of 3D dome shows and sky shows. During the tour, the students actively communicated with the guides of the Center. They compared the popular science education and science communication work in Jiangsu and Macao, which laid a good foundation for deepening the exchanges and cooperation on popular science and culture between the two places in the future.

With the support of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, the Center has been committed to promoting popular science education, science communication and cultural exchanges. This is the first mainland research and study group to visit the Center after the SAR Government launched the 2023 "Educational City & Study Tour" initiative, reflecting the efforts made by Macao Science Center in actively responding to and cooperating on the "tourism + industry" direction promoted by the SAR Government. Macao Science Center can also create activities with different themes for research and study groups. In addition to gallery visits, there are other options to choose from that will improve the groups' understanding of high and new technologies as well as their scientific literacy, such as popular science workshops, science demonstrations, popular science theater, theater tours, dome shows or astronomical observation instrument operation guidance.
