The 2023 LEGO® Education FLL China Open Championship (Intercontinental Tournament) Comes to a Successful Close
with Nearly 1,000 Participants and Related Parties Visiting the Macao Science Center in Three Days
Co-organized by the Macao Science Center and the LEGO® Education FLL China Organization Committee, the 2023 LEGO® Education FLL China Open Championship (Intercontinental Tournament) was held from August 3 to 5 at Gallery C of Cotai Expo, The Venetian Macao, attracting 450 elite teams comprising more than 2,000 players from the Chinese mainland, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. According to statistics, more than 5,000 participants, mentors and entourages came to Macao. In addition to the competition, the organizer arranged a tour of the Macao Science Center for the players, their families and mentors to experience the edutainment facilities and science programs. Nearly 1,000 participants and related parties visited the Macao Science Center in three days. During the period, they visited the special exhibition "Vaccine: Guardian of Human Health", the Chinese Scientist Spirit Gallery, the Data Science Gallery and other galleries, enjoyed the brand new dome show "We are Guardians" at the Planetarium and participated in the "Starry Night: Homemade Star Projector" activity to learn about the principles of projector making and knowledge of astronomical science. The visiting students said that to tour to the Center during the competition not only reduced their competition pressure, but also enabled them to experience the diversified science popularization activities of the Center and enjoy the fun of exploring science in the process.
The 2023 LEGO® Education FLL China Open Championship (Intercontinental Tournament) that MSC has been involved in hosting for the first time is supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, the Macao Polytechnic University, the Macau University of Science and Technology, the City University of Macau, the Chinese Educators Association of Macau, the Union of Catholic Schools of Macau, and the Macau Gifted Education Association. Under the theme of "Super Powered", the competition aims to encourage children and adolescents to apply knowledge and technology flexibly, learn the methods of scientific research through hands-on practice, enhance their interest in careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), and cultivate their creative collaboration and logical thinking skills to cope with various challenges in their lives. The competition is also included in the "Educational City & Study Tour" initiative jointly launched by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, the Macao tourism industry, other government departments and tertiary institutions to promote the moderate diversification of Macao's economy.
