MUST President Joseph Hun-wei Lee Leads a Delegation to MSC

To Exchange Views on Deepening Cooperation in Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village"

    On the morning of October 12, President Joseph Hun-wei Lee of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) led a delegation to Macao Science Center (MSC) and met with Curator Sio Hon Pan, also a director and a member of the Executive Committee of Macao Science Center Limited, and Oscar Leong, Controller of Macao Science Center Education and Exhibits Department. Both sides discussed and exchanged views on issues such as deepening cooperation in the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village" and strengthening science popularization and education and high-tech transmission.

    During their visit to MSC, President Joseph Hun-wei Lee and the delegation listened to Curator Sio Hon Pan's introduction to the design, architecture and development of the MSC. After visiting some major facilities, such as the Macao Laboratory of Information Technology Application and Innovation, International Laboratory for Science Popularization of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, Maker Space and Planetarium, they learned about the equipment, functions and application scenarios of each shared laboratory, as well as contents of the science popularization experimental curriculum for students under the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village".

    Afterwards, both sides had a discussion on many topics, including how to improve students’ interest in science, encouraging them to take science and technology subjects, offering opportunities for exercising operational capacity and practice, and guiding young people to join the science and technology industry. Moreover, they conducted in-depth exchanges on how to deepen cooperation in the Program for the Development of Scientific Innovation Talent of "Youth Science and Technology Village", jointly promote the spread of high-tech and science, select scientific research projects with unique strengths (e.g., the forms of science popularization in fields like microelectronics and aerospace technology, network security technology, sustainable development, and biodiversity), as well as the design of teaching plans for students under the training program in the above-mentioned scientific research fields. It is expected to bring diversified high-end learning experiences to students, and jointly enhance the development of talent in the field of science and technology in Macao and the industry-university-research cooperation and development.

    There were 13 other members in the MUST delegation, including Professor Zhang Du, Director of School of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor WONG Hon Cheng, Assistant Dean of School of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Tang Jianxin, Executive Department Head of Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering, Professor Wu Naiqi, Director of Macau Institute of Systems Engineering, Professor Ma Yibing, Director of Macau Environmental Research Institute, Chair Professor Zong Qiugang of SSI - Space Science Institute/State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, Assistant Professor Tang Chi Pui of SSI, Professor Fung Man Keung of Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Innovation Engineering, Prefessor Li Jianqing, Assistant Dean of School of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Zheng Jian Yi, Architecture Program Director of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Director Chu Oi Mei of the Secretariat of Rector Office, and Chief Lei In Fong of Finance Division.
