In order to further enhance the effectiveness of science popularization and education of the Macao Science Center, the Center entrusted China Research Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP) to conduct third-party performance appraisal research. On November 27, Curator Sio Hon Pan, Board Member and Executive Committee Member of Macao Science Center Limited, attended the Working Meeting on the Appraisal Research Project held by the China Research Institute for Science Popularization in Beijing, where he was received by Deputy Secretary Hu Fumei and Deputy Director-General Zhang Lijie of CRISP, and listened to the report of CRISP on the work progress of the project. Subsequently, both parties had in-depth exchanges and discussions and achieved the expected phased results.

As a public capital enterprise, Macao Science Center has been continuously boosting science popularization and education over the years. In recent years, with the support of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, the Center has expanded its functions as a science and technology venue, deepened its collaboration and linkage with primary and secondary schools, and gradually developed into an important out-of-school classroom for science and technology education of primary and secondary schools. With the successive completion of the renovation projects of the exhibition galleries of the Center and the opening of the two laboratories, namely the International Laboratory for Science Popularization of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System and the IT Application and Innovation Laboratory, the Center will further promote the high-quality development of science popularization and education to support the “1+4” Development Plan for Appropriate Economic Diversification of the Macao SAR, and contribute to China's scientific self-reliance and self-improvement.

In this regard, Macao Science Center expects to entrust an authoritative national academic institution to develop a performance indicator system that is conducive to the sustainable development of the Center, and provide the Center with a professional and objective third-party assessment report, so as to continuously improve and enhance the social benefits and management effectiveness of the Center. China Research Institute for Science Popularization is the only centralized public service institute engaged in science and technology communication and science popularization theories, and undertakes important tasks such as the national survey and assessment of public scientific literacy. The entrusted assessment was strongly supported by the leadership of CRISP, which not only set up a dedicated working group of leaders and experts from the institute, but also appointed authoritative scholars in the field of science and technology venues as consultants to provide solid professional support for the research and assessment.

On November 27, invited by the project team of CRISP, Curator Sio Hon Pan of Macao Science Center attended the presentation of the phased results of the project in Beijing. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Secretary Hu Fumei of CRISP, and a team of experts led by Deputy Director-General Zhang Lijie, introduced the progress and results of the project. During the meeting, an in-depth discussion was made on issues of concern to both parties, laying a foundation for the follow-up advancement of the project. Both parties exchanged opinions on future cooperation, especially the dissemination of science and technology to Portuguese-speaking countries under the Belt and Road Initiative, and agreed to collaborate in pushing forward the relevant work to make due contribution to the development of China.
